Archeology GalleryRed clay tobacco pipe
|
This object is a red clay tobacco pipe bowl. It is decorated with an incised depiction of some type of animal, possibly a deer or other quadruped. This style of pipe was made by the local American Indians and traded to the colonists. The decoration is created by using a serrated, fossil sharks tooth like a rocker stamp. The resulting dashed incisions are then filled with a contrasting, white colored clay. |
