Archeology GalleryStaffordshire-type slipware mug
|
This ceramic vessel uses a buff or yellow-colored clay body and is decorated with the application of a contrasting, dark stained clay called a slip. The form is characteristic of a mug or cup. This type of ceramic was made in a number of English potting centers, most notably Staffordshire. It begins to be common on American sites after 1670. |
