Archeology Gallery20th-century iron trowel
|
This iron trowel was discovered in the excavations at the St. John's site. It is modern in origin and still retains its ferrule or handle reinforcement. This trowel was recovered from a backfilled trench that had been excavated by Dr. Henry Chandlee Forman at the St. John's site in the 1960s. Dr. Forman was a pioneering architectural historian who undertook some of the earliest reported archaeology in St. Mary's City. We believe this trowel was lost by Dr. Forman and is therefore an artifact of archaeology.. |
