ASM's 2001 Teacher of the Year Award

Dorothy Harris

Mrs. Dorothy Harris (right), a teacher of chemistry, anatomy, and physiology from Quince Orchard High School, Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, is the Archeological Society of Maryland's Teacher of the Year for 2001. Mrs. Harris has developed a single-semester course which focuses on the scientific approach to anthropology and archeology. She has enhanced this course over the years and now the program has been included in the Montgomery County course bulletin and is being taught for the first time this fall at other high schools in the county. ASM commends her efforts and looks forward to working with her in the future as we continue to develop a curriculum in archeology that may be implemented in secondary schools in the state.
